got in some road time today

this past week was a nice transition back into training. mon/wed/fri were 30 to 40min swim workouts and thurs morning was 30min spin on the trainer. other than that i have done several strength training workouts on the core, lower body, and upper body. i have also been doing lots of stretching to get the body back to feeling fresh. yesterday was another spin on the trainer followed by a 1k straight swim at the local pool. its nice having the local pool open again for quick/easy swims.

today was the fun workout. i dusted of the old road bike and put in 90min on the road. i went thru circle c and the surrounding areas to get the legs pumping again. the ride had its share of false flats, rollers, and easy to mod hills. i started easy and then hit the inclines with a decent effort. it was good to see the legs respond so well after AZ and a 2 week layoff. the ride really helped recharge the battery and get me excited again about the rest of the year.

something i realized today was that the early season IM helped get me a huge base to carry me thru the rest of this years training and races. the past 2 years it was ramp up the base for a few months and then go go go!!!!. I like to think i just put in 5months of heavy base b/c i got in lots of volume with no speed work and minimal ME work. now i just need to get the legs back under me and then focus on building my ME and cap it off with speed/high intensity work b4 races. i feel a strong season in store for me and i plan to take more chances in the half IM races 2 finished with 4:40 to 4:50 times.
